1958 Proof Florin

The Kruger Gray design continued into this type right until the introduction of decimal currency with the conclusion of the florin series in 1963. This type features a slightly reworded obverse legend, 'ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F:D', ('Elizabeth II, by the grace of god, queen, defender of the faith'), after public outcry that the previous type omitted 'FIDEI DEF' ('defender of the faith').

All dates in the series are easy to acquire in mint state though the 1956, 1959 and 1963 florins are quite scarce in the upper mint state grades though the 1956 usually has a price to match. Most other dates are reasonable easy to acquire at or above MS63 with mint rolls being found of all years from 1958 to 1963 with a few 1957 rolls (Pacific Rim Coins, 2002).

All dates in the series were struck at the Melbourne mint and do not display any mintmarks.
