1943-S Florin

In 1943 the San Francisco mint struck 11 million Australian florins bearing the Kruger Gray design of the Coat of Arms on the reverse and Paget's portrait of King George VI on the obverse. The San Francisco mint assisted the Melbourne mint in the production of 1943 Australian florin (Learn more about the 1943 Florin), these can be differentiated from the San Francisco mint issue by the absence of an S mintmark above the date.

The San Francisco mint issue, despite the lower mintage is a easier coin to acquire in mint state due to the abundance of mint rolls surfacing from the Vienna hoard. While a number of examples are available in MS65, sourcing one can be quite a challenge with most locked away in private collections.
