1948 Penny

The 1948 penny is one of the more common dates in the series, especially in top grades with numerous bank rolls and hoards surfacing. This has resulted in the coin being relatively easy to source in mint state, although if full mint brilliance is desired, expect to pay a reasonable premium over a Red-Brown coin.

The 1948 penny is differentiated from the Perth mint 1948-Y Penny (Learn more about the 1948-Y Penny) by the absence of a dot after Y of PENNY.

The Perth mint 1948-Y Penny has a dot after PENNY as in the above photo.
