1921-* Specimen Shilling

In 1921, the Sydney mint produced specimen shillings as proof of record strikings. The specimen features a flattened brilliant finish as typical for Sydney mint specimen strikes with smooth surface reflections. The reverse features some slight weakening of the emu and the top of the shield while the obverse is generally well struck up. The specimen can be best characterized by two obverse die cracks.

The second die crack of the 1921 specimen shilling, under OR and through the 2nd G of GEORGE

The die cracks alone should not be used as a means of identifying a specimen strike, but rather, should be paired with the correct surface finish as a means of identification.
