1942 Threepence

The 1942 threepence is the key date of the George VI threepence series primarily due to its low
mintage of just 528,000 pieces. The issue was struck at the Melbourne mint and is identifiable by the absence of a
mintmark under the second half of the date.

The coin is plagued by a soft strike on the wheat stalks making high grade
mint state coins difficult to come by with MS64 being the highest grade realistically available. The coin is by no means easy to acquire in
mint state, being one of the rarest George VI circulation strike in
mint state with most uncertified uncirculated examples on the market grading between AU53 and AU58.
