1871-S Type I Full Sovereign

Full Sovereigns as we know them today were minted from 1817 onwards at the Royal Mint London and various branch mints worldwide. Today, full sovereigns are only minted at London however from 1855 to 1931 full sovereigns were minted at the Sydney, Melbourne and Perth mints. Australia's full sovereigns are among the world's most prized coins with the series housing some of Australia's most valuable coins such as the 1920-S Full Sovereign. While full sovereign mintages may seem relatively high when compared with their half sovereign counterparts, when full sovereigns showed any noticeable wear, they were withdrawn from circulation and thus actual counts are much lower.
