Young Head Narrow Ribbon (1877 - 1882)

This new obverse bust type features a low obverse relief and a narrow ribbon through Victoria's hair. The shield appears to be identical to the previous Melbourne years however displays less detail, possibly due to die wear from re-using the dies from previous years. This obverse/reverse design combination was used by the Melbourne mint in 1877 Learn more about the 1877-M Narrow Ribbon Half Sovereign, and then in 1882 Learn more about the 1882-M Truncated Bust Half Sovereign.
