1896-M Half Sovereign

The 1896 Melbourne is a tough date in the upper grades though turns up more often than most other old head dates in lower grades. This date and the 1900 Sydney are the only two old head dates from Australian mints that tend to turn up in dealer's bullion piles. In the upper grades it isn't well represented though one Gem example is known.
