1859 Half Sovereign

The third date in the series is the 1859, which is slightly scarcer than the previous two years in most grades, especially in the higher grades. It is available in mint state though I have only sighted one such example. The finest example from the Reserve Bank of Australia sale was in VF, while the 1858 (Learn more about the 1858 Half Sovereign) and 1856( Learn more about the 1856 Half Sovereign) were offered up to EF and gEF respectively (Downies, 2005).

Valuation
Typical Handled: $420
This valuation represents a typical handled example of the coin. Coins in better condition will command a substantial premium over the listed price. For example, an average 1911 florin is worth around $50, but in choice uncirculated condition is worth about $15,000! To view valuations in higher grades, please click here to subscribe.
