1861/60 Overdate Half Sovereign

The 1861/0 is the best known overdate in the series, and the only type which frequently sells for a premium over its host coin. Four of this type sold through the Reserve Bank of Australia Sale in 2005 (Downies, 2005), and about a dozen others have appeared on the market. Ironically, the more common overdates sell for a greater premium than the scarcer types - this is due to the awareness that the frequency of appearances supply.
