The 1859 is the third year in which Type II Sydney mint half sovereigns were struck and while the mintage of 341,000 is substantial compared to later dates, it is no doubt scarce, especially in higher grades with no major hoards surfacing unlike the years from 1856 to 1858. The 2005 'mob of roos' proof one dollar is an example of a coin that should never have been. The 2005 proof set contained the Peace dollar but some 2006 proof sets inadvertently contained 2005 dated proof dollars giving rise to this scarce issue. It is estimated that about 40 examples were produced and while technically an error, it is collected as part of the dollar series and is one of the hardest challenges the proof dollar collector will face.
